I sometimes feel inadequate in this world. Partnering, daughtering, mothering, sistering, friending, working. Life becomes overwhelming. I can feel the walls of “everything” closing in.
Even in the midst of a crowd, connecting with friends, laughing with someone – I sometimes feel disconnected, isolated within a crowd. It is as though the real me is watching this other me try to make connections, try to be social, try to be “OK”. Those are the times I crave the voice of my Heavenly Creator the most.
The Psalms are full of David’s cries for Yahweh to answer his pleas, to not ignore his cries. Yet the Psalms are also full of praise and admiration for the God whom David serves. In the end, regardless of David’s cries for connection and answers, God’s love for David is never questioned.
In the midst of questioning, I learn that Yahweh is never disconnected from us – regardless of how we feel or what we think. We are never disconnected. However, our humanness often demands tangible evidence and constant engagement. We want clear answer, demonstrative support, and validation. We want to “know” everything (think “Original Sin”), understand everything, justify everything – but Yahweh IS Yahweh. God IS God. He is not required to fill in the gaps for us BECAUSE HE knows all. Our human minds can not grasp the vastness of the infinite decisions, linkages, outcomes, impacts, or solutions pertaining to our actions.
In the midst of my anxiety, it’s easy to believe God is ignoring me. It’s easy to believe I am not connected to Him – that He is far away. I blame Him for my disconnection. In truth, it is my lack of faith that causes my feelings of inadequacy and disconnection.
Yahweh is clear in His commitment to me.
David knew…
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalms 23:4 NIV
Peter knew…
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 NIV
Yahweh whispered to Isaiah…
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 NIV
Matthew believed He would never leave him…
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 NIV
Joshua knew God had his back…
No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5 NIV
John was confident…
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:13 NIV
Our Heavenly Father is never far away from us – EVER. He is always there. Nothing can create distance from Him other lack of faith or unconfesed sin.
When we are distant from God, that is our doing. We are the one who chooses to turn our head and ignore Him. WE are the one who walks away. We are the one who refuses to listen. We are one who refuses to communicate.
Yahweh is still there. He never moved. I did.
