Why Yahweh?
Because that’s HIS name…
[I am] Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. Exodus 34:6-7 NLT
The name itself has power, because it belongs to One of power. To call Him by His name demonstrates our understanding of WHO He is, what He can do, what He will do, and what He has done. Most importantly, we need to understand how He defines Himself because it gives us the courage to reach out to Him with understanding of what He can accomplish.
Why Whispers?
Because that’s what HE does…
The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:11-12 NIV
We live in a loud and fast world – a world that often causes confusion and kills our hopes. In our greatest times of confusion and darkness, we search for guidance and enlightenment. The world tells us that the enlightenment we seek requires ritual, devout practices, or great sacrifice. The Bible tells us differently. The Bible tells us to simply “seek”, “knock”, “ask”. And so we cry to the sky and heavens to provide an answer, and then we look …
… we look for the thunder
… we look for the earthquake
… we look for the fire
… we look for some sign, sound, or signal to verify that we are heard.
YAHWEH does not shout, push, or bombard. He comes to us gently, to minister, to council, to comfort, and – yes – to discipline.
Yahweh is THE God of Love and Grace – one who speaks to our soul in kind words with pride, love, humor, and compassion. He is Yahweh. His voice is quiet and sure – in direct opposition to the loud stirrings of our anxieties, fears, and self-doubts.
A Whisper in our soul and very being.
